Tampaksiring

North of Ubud is where many of Bali’s new hotspots are located and Tampaksiring is one of these areas.

Only 13 kms or approximately 20 minute drive Tampaksiring has been kept in the shadow of Ubud but is now becoming a destination on its own. Some describe Tampaksiring as Ubud 20 years ago.

The word tampak in Balinese means foot and siring means slanted. According to legend the town location was created by footstep of King Mayadenawa.

Tampaksiring was one of the major Balinese kingdoms during pre colonial times but is known today for expansive rice fields, the pretty Pakerisan River, local crafts and impressive temples the two most important being Tirta Empul and Gunung Kawi. Both protected by UNESCO.

Tampaksiring is also location of Istana Tampaksiring, one of the 6 presidential palaces in Indonesia. The Palace was built between 1957 and 1960 at the initiation of President Sukarno. The buildings of the complex are scattered around on an area covering 19 hectares. The main palace building are built on higher ground overlooking Tirta Empul Temple and facing Mount Agung.

Rich in culture and natural beauty with many sight and activities to experience, Tampaksiring is a fascinating area to explore.
